Consistency Without Hustle: Finding Your Rhythm When Life Feels Heavy

We all have seasons when life feels a little heavier than usual. Maybe you’re juggling family needs, growing your business, managing health challenges, or simply feeling drained from trying to do it all.

As women running businesses and raising families, we tend to hold ourselves to impossible standards — believing that if we’re not “on” all the time, we’re falling behind. But here’s the truth I keep coming back to:
👉 Consistency doesn’t mean constant.

It means showing up in a way that fits your current season, your capacity, and your priorities — not someone else’s.

Redefining Consistency in a Season That Feels Hard

In a recent conversation with web designer and founder Dana Watkins, we talked about what it looks like to stay visible and consistent while navigating a deeply personal season — in her case, an IVF journey, a full-time job, and a growing side business.

Dana shared how she had to rethink what consistency meant. For her, it wasn’t posting every day or keeping up with every platform — it was choosing one or two places where she could show up intentionally.

That shift is something I encourage all of my clients to make: when you’re in a heavy season, scale back the volume, not the visibility.

Instead of disappearing completely, find a rhythm that feels doable — maybe that’s one LinkedIn post per week, or a quick story check-in every few days. You’ll be surprised at how sustainable your marketing feels when it matches your real life.

Choose Platforms That Match Your Energy

So often we hear that we “need” to be on every platform. But what if your energy (and audience) live somewhere specific?

For Dana, that platform was LinkedIn — a space where she could connect with other founders and professionals through storytelling and reflection. Her Instagram became a behind-the-scenes space, a place for process and client stories.

And that’s a lesson worth holding onto:
When you know why you’re on a platform, you’ll know how to show up there.

You don’t need to be everywhere — you just need to be consistent in the right places.

What to Share (and What to Keep Private)

Another powerful part of our conversation was about what to share when your personal life intersects with your business. Dana’s story reminded me that vulnerability is not the same as visibility — you can be transparent without telling everything.

If you’re navigating something personal, like a family challenge or health journey, start by sharing it with your offline circle. When you feel grounded, you can decide what feels aligned to share online.

Your story might become someone else’s survival guide — but you get to choose when and how you tell it.

Consistency That Honors Your Capacity

When business and life both feel full, the best thing you can do is give yourself permission to simplify.

Ask yourself:

  • What feels light to create right now?

  • Where am I already naturally connecting with my audience?

  • What would consistency look like if it felt kind?

Sometimes that means posting less, using a 9-grid, or outsourcing content support. Other times, it’s choosing to pause and re-emerge stronger.

Because consistency isn’t about forcing momentum — it’s about maintaining trust, both with your audience and yourself.

A Final Word: Your Season Will Shift

Every season of business asks something different of you. What matters is staying aligned with your purpose and giving yourself the grace to adapt.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember:
🌼 You don’t have to be everywhere.
🌼 You don’t have to do it all.
🌼 You just have to keep showing up, in a way that feels true to you.

That’s the kind of consistency that builds a sustainable business — and a life that feels good to live.
